What is the  60th National Chess Championship 2023 ?
The National Chess Championship in memory of Adv Sanket Fuke  is the annual national chess championship of India, where the best chess players of the country compete for the prestigious title of National Champion. The championship has a rich history and tradition, it has witnessed many memorable battles and brilliant performances by some of the finest chess players of India.

GM Abhijeet Gupta (2625,PSPB),GM Abhimanyu Puranik (2611), GM Sethuraman, S.P.(2591, PSPB – Petroleum Sports Promotion Board), GM Surya Ganguly (2583,PSPB), GM Diptayan Ghosh (2568,West Bengal), GM Visakh, N R (2540, RSPB), IM Aronyak Ghosh (2538,RSPB), GM Mitrabha Guha (2505,West Bengal), GM Iniyan P (2502,TN), FM Suyog Wagh (2221, Maharashtra), WIM Harshita Guddanti (2220,Andhra Pradesh), IM Abhishek Kelkar (2217,Maharashtra) are some of the top players who will be seen in action at the event which is being organised by Maharashtra Chess Association (MCA), under the aegis of All India Chess Federation(AICF) and FIDE, supported by Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.
The championship will be held from August 16  to August 26,2023.


Interesting Things to note about the 60th National Chess Championship 2023
It is after 30 years that MCA is getting the opportunity to host such a prestigious event which is the 60th National Chess Championship 2023,last one organized by MCA was in 1993.
Some Interesting stats to be noticed is that players from 25+ States are participating with a player strength of 359 participants.
There are 18GMs , 1 WGM, 17 IM’s, 4 FM, 1 WFM, 12 CM which is a total of 53 Rated Players in this prestigious tournament.

Guest Presence at the Opening Ceremony
The opening ceremony saw the gracious presence of Shri Chandrakant Patil Hon’ble Guardian Minister – Pune & Hon’ble Minister of Higher & Technical Education of Maharashtra. Shri Bharat Singh Chauhan, Deputy President – Asian Chess Federation,Hon’ble Chairman – FIDE Advisory Board,Shri Aniruddha Deshpande, Shri Siddharth Mayur, Shri Girish Chitale were the other dignitaries present at the dais.


What is the 60th National Chess Championship 2023 Format?
The National will be played in a Swiss system with 11 rounds each. The time control for all the categories will be 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game, with an increment of 30 seconds per move from move one.
The Tournament director is Niranjan Godbole and the  Chief Arbiter is IA Gopakumar M.S.
